Very well-preserved behind its ramparts, Beaune offers its visitors a remarkable heritage : Romanesque architecture, half-timbered medieval houses and private mansions dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. It offers very pleasant walks, from the Hôtel-Dieu (Hospices de Beaune), a medieval gem built by the Dukes of Burgundy, to the Collégiale Notre-Dame, a superb church of Cluniac inspiration. A tour of the Hôtel des Ducs de Bourgogne is not to be missed. This half-timbered building with an octagonal tower, two timber galleries and a magnificent cellar is a listed Historic Landmark, now playing host to the Museum of Burgundy Wine.
Because Beaune's second asset consists of its vineyards, part of UNESCO's World Heritage, whose "appellations" set everyone dreaming : Pommard, Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet, Corton Charlemagne… A major annual event in Wine-producing Burgundy is the Wine Auction held by the Hospices de Beaune, every third Sunday in November. Finally, the "Cité des Climats et Vins de Bourgogne" will open its doors in spring 2023, in Beaune. Something new, enabling visitors to explore all the many facets of the world of the vine and Burgundy wine, making Beaune, once and for all, the "City of Wine".
